Next Gen is hiring
Seeking dynamic, thoughtful educators who are out of the classroom but want to stay involved in teaching! We have positions open at both locations this year, as we are rebuilding our staff after shrinking our program down a bit during the pandemic.
First, we should tell you that these are our dealbreakers:
You must have classroom teaching experience in middle or high school in Southern California in the last five years. We need you to be familiar with the local school culture in order to advise our students on navigating the school experience.
For all positions, you must be reliably available for the afternoon, evening and some Saturday hours during the school year. (During summer there is some flexibility, and there are some morning hours.) This is high-volume program run by a small staff and we cannot accommodate frequent last-minute schedule changes very often. You will know your schedule far in advance, your hours will be consistent and we will be counting on you to work!
We're looking for teacher with a certain kind of "coach" energy, somewhere between mentor and professor.
You must possess classroom management strategies for small groups (3 to 10). This is a group program with individual conferencing for instruction; you will be in a position every day to help teens manage their motivation, behavior, device usage and engagement.
You will mostly be teaching in your domain of strength/main subject expertise, but we all pitch in with other subject from time to time. If you're a math and science specialist, you need to be willing to read an essay once in a while if you're the only one available to give feedback. If you're and English teacher, you need to be willing to dig into a biology textbook with a student and at least help them navigate the reading.
We all teach executive functioning at the start and close of each session. We provide ongoing training in this area.
You are a mature professional person who knows how to communicate in a nuanced way with multiple stakeholders (colleagues, parents, event guests.
